Film Set

In May of 2005 I designed and built a film set for a low budget independent short film that was featured at the“Parade”, a theater and film festival that travels across the Netherlands and a few other cities in Europe. The commission was to create a space that would make the actor appear very tall, and also create a sense of a carnival and prison atmosphere. The film, Entitled “Freak“, is about 12 minutes long and is viewed from within the “syntheseseur” a kind of traveling theater which moves and shakes as part of the film experience. The film is a production of the Stichting Zuiderlicht and was directed by Ton van Erp. The filmmakers produced an excellent film and the design was successful in meeting the goals of the creative team.
The set was built near Rotterdam over a period of several weeks with substantial assistance from Jan van Nieuwehuize as well as Carla Leurs and Gitta Fleuren. The set was disassembled and is being used as a stage set for a live theater piece of the same production.
